Lost Child Finds Mum 25 Years Later When He Recognised His Home 6000 Miles Away On Google Earth

A man who was accidentally transported 1,000 miles from home in India when he was just six years old traced his mum 25 years later from Australia using Google Earth.

Lost, Saroo Brierley ended up begging on the streets of India after being separated from his family.
But he was picked up by a charity that arranged for him to be adopted in Tasmania, Australia.

His story is now set to be featured in a new film, Lion, starring Nicole Kidman, charting his amazing life story.

Despite growing up in a loving family in Australia, he admits he spent years looking at maps and eventually at Google Earth for signs of the landmarks that he knew as a child.

And after recognising the village he was born in, Saroo traveled home - where he enjoyed an emotional reunion with his mother.

Saroo, who grew up in rural India, said that as a child he rarely had enough to eat and would often travel on trains in the area together with his brother.

But during one ill-fated trip in 1987, aged six, he had been dozing at a station with his brother and when he woke up he found that he was alone.

He said: "I opened my eyes and couldn't see my brother, but I saw a train in front of me with the door open and for some reason I thought he was on board.

"I think you could say that split-second decision changed my life forever."

Saroo made the 1,000-mile journey across the country and ending up in the north-eastern city of Kolkata, where alone and unable to speak the language, he became a beggar.

Luckily, he was rescued from the streets and put into an orphanage where he was adopted by an Australian couple – and ended up moving to Tasmania where he started a new life.

But the youngster, who dreamed of one day being reunited with his mother, said: "I remembered landmarks, for example there was a waterfall where we used to play and the dam.

"But I didn't know the city or town's name and finding a small neighbourhood in a vast country proved to be nearly impossible."

He did not give up though, looking at satellite images on Google Earth, zooming in and out of the map, exploring the web of railway lines criss-crossing India.

He said: "I thought to myself, 'Well, the first thing you're gonna see before you come to your hometown is the river where you used to play with your brothers, and the waterfall, and the architecture of this particular place where you used to visit quite a lot.' It has to be exactly the same, otherwise, if it's not, I'd just fly over and go somewhere else."

And then came the day he found the right place.

He said: "Everything just started to match. So I traced a road back that I would follow back as a child, and before I knew it I was looking at the suburb where I had grown up, and just on the right of it was the house I had grown up in. I couldn't sleep for that whole night."

He said: "I just thought the worst, I thought perhaps everyone's gone, my whole family's died, they've passed away.

"But lucky for me this lady came out of a doorway holding a baby, and she said, "Can I help you?" and I said to her, my name is Saroo and these are my family members' names.

"Within 10 minutes they came back around and they said, 'Now I'm going to take you to your mother'.

"And I couldn't believe it, because when I went around the corner, which was only 10, 15 metres around the corner, there were three ladies standing in front of an entrance to a house.

"And I looked at the second one and I thought, "There's something about you" — and it took me a few seconds but I decrypted what she used to looked like.

"She looked so much shorter than I remembered when I was a four-year-old child.

"But she walked forward, and I walked forward, and my emotions and tears and the chemical in my brain, you know, it was like a nuclear fusion.

"I just didn't know, really, what to say, because I never thought this point in time or ever seeing my mother would ever come true. And there I am, standing in front of her."

Big woman Ada Ugo faints in Court after she was Convicted for Subsidy Fraud ...photo

The MD of Ontario Oil and Gas Limited, Mrs. Ada Ugo-Ngadi, fainted on Friday at the Lagos High Court in Ikeja after being convicted of N754m oil subsidy scam.

Madam Ada, who had stood in the dock while Justice Lateefa Okunnu was delivering judgment in a N1.9bn subsidy scam trial in which she and three others where defendants, slumped as the judge was about to pronounce her sentence.

The prosecuting counsel for the EFCC, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), had pointed out to the judge that the offence carried a 7-year jail term and urged the judge to impose the maximum sentence.

But before the judge could pronounce the sentence, Madam Ada passed out.

As lawyers in court and her loved ones rushed to her aid, Justice Okunnu, noting the state of things, adjourned the case and reserved her pronouncement on the sentence till January 16.

As she regained consciousness, Madam Ada was panting loudly while her lawyers frantically called for medical personnel and an ambulance to take her to the hospital.

The convict was eventually carried out of the courtroom by her lawyers and loved ones into a waiting black jeep which sped out of the court premises.

Ontario Oil and Gas Limited; its Chairman, Mr. Walter Wagbatsoma; Madam Ada; and an official of the Petroleum Products Price and Regulatory Agency, Mr. Babafemi Fakuade, had been arraigned by the EFCC on August 1, 2013.

The EFCC, in the eight counts pressed against them, alleged that they were involved in a N1.9bn fuel subsidy scam.

The charges centred on conspiracy, obtaining by false pretences, forgery and uttering, running into Billions of naira.

Justice Okunnu found Wagbatsoma and Madam Ada guilty, holding that they defrauded Nigeria to the tune of N754m in oil subsidy transactions totaling N1.7bn.

Two UNILAG Female students graduate with 5.0 CGPA.

Two graduating students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have recorded an impressive feat of having a perfect 5.00 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the 2015/2016 session.

Oyindamola Omotuyi emerged as the best graduating student from the department of Systems Engineering while Bankole Titilayo Taiwo graduated from the department of Cell Biology and Genetics.
Beautiful Omotuyi, a 22-year-old student, says she was encouraged by her school fellowship to do well academically and spiritually.

“The Redeemed Christian Fellowship had overcomers award and encouraged us to do well academically even spiritually so I was challenged by it.”

Asked how she managed to graduate with a perfect CGPA, she attributed her success to God, hard work, and her coursemates.

“Well, I must say it’s been God all through. He provided wisdom at every point. Also, He brought my coursemates and friends who helped me immensely.

“I worked a lot with people. It’s good to include that there were challenges but the beautiful thing is that they were for a short while. It was not easy but considering the fact that God provided strength all the way, I would say it was easy with God.”

Omotuyi gave tips on how she achieved the perfect CGPA, in the hope of helping others who seek to replicate her accomplishment.

“It’s good to read but yet read rightly. Ride on the wings of those that have gone ahead. Ask questions about the nitty gritty of the course and what the lecturer wants.

“During exams, write what your lecturer want to see not what you want to write. Work with your classmates.”

Taiwo, a 21-year-old, said a 5.00 CGPA was not her target but she wanted to have a first class degree and “an interesting lifestyle”.

“It’s possible to strike a balance with social and academic commitments if the individual is good with time management and self-study. It wasn’t easy to graduate with 5.00 GPA because there were a lot of challenges but God made it easy and I overcame.

“My advice to students is that they should be determined, have self-confidence, trust God in everything, set their goals in having a good result and work towards it, and they should be the best in whatever they do.

“There will be a lot of challenges though but they will overcome end don’t forget there’s always light after every dark tunnel, success don’t come easily.”

UNILAG graduate, Ayodele Dada, was celebrated for recording same feat in 2014/2015 session.

Teenage Schoolboy, 16, Arrested After Girl, 12, 'Dragged Off Street, Forced Into Alleyway And Raped'

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of raping a 12-year-old girl in an alleyway.

The boy was questioned by police today over the alleged sex attack in Manchester.

The girl told cops she was grabbed from behind as she walked down the street before being dragged into the alley and raped on November 22.

The attack is alleged to have happened at 5pm in Chapel Street, near to the Horseshoe Pub in the Levenshulme area of the city.

Detective Inspector Dave Moores, of Greater Manchester Police's serious sexual offences unit, said: “This week we released an e-fit of a person we wished to speak to regarding this attack.

“I would like to thank the public for the response we have had.

“We have now arrested a 16-year-old boy. He is currently in custody being questioned.

“Our investigation is still ongoing however, so anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have seen anything suspicious is asked to get in touch.

“There will still be an increased police presence in the community whilst the investigation continues to encourage those who have information to come and speak to us and reassure anyone with any concerns.”

Police offered to issue rape alarms and promised a permanent police presence to keep women safe following a spate of sex attacks in Manchester last year.

The attacks included the rape of another 12-year-old girl in Crowcroft Park, Levenshulme, on September 1.

Teacher Who Had Near Daily Sex With 13-Year-Old Pupil Who Got Her Pregnant Is Jailed For 10 Years ...photo

A middle school teacher who admitted having 'near-daily sex' with a 13-year-old pupil has been jailed for 10 years
.
Alexandria Vera, 24, claimed the boy's parents were happy that their son stayed over at her house and even approved of her keeping his baby when she fell pregnant by her child lover.

State District Judge Michael McSpadden, jailing the school Miss from Houston, Texas, said: "We want out educators to teach our students.

"We want them to keep their hands off the students."

The judge said the sentence, which was reduced from 30 years after Vera admitted a lesser sex abuse charge, sent out a clear message.

Therapist speaking on Vera's behalf told the court : "I think she was driven by being in love with him."
Investigators said Vera, who had an abortion , had sex with the boy 'near-daily' on an almost 'continuous basis'.

The case made headlines last year after Vera briefly went on the run before turning herself in.

She was released on bail and caused a stir when she was spotted jogging around the running track at the school where she seduced the lad.

Uncle Said I’d Die If I Told Anybody He Touched Me – Pupil, 6, Raped Seven Times

Sola (not real name), had no inkling anything was wrong with her only child, six-year-old Mariam, when she was brought home on holiday during the Yuletide.

The little girl, a Basic One pupil of  Medinat Al Munawarat Islamic Nursery and Primary School, a boarding school at Iju, along Sango-Idiroko Road, Ogun State, told her mother nothing.

Unfortunately for the girl’s mother, who is a widow, she was none the wiser about the abuse her daughter had been suffering in the school.

Our correspondent later learnt when he spoke with the girl, that her alleged abuser, Sirotullahi Abdufatahi, had warned her never to tell anybody, in fact threatening her that she was going to die if she told her mother.

Abdufatahi, 21, is the son of the school proprietress, Mrs. Modinat Ashafa.

But the week Mariam was supposed to resume school for the year, she was at her big aunty’s house when she decided to share with her cousin, a girl about her age, her “school stories”.

In the story, she told her little cousin how Uncle Sirotulahi would come to their room on some nights, pulled her out of the bed she shared with other girls who are boarders in the school and told her to pull down her pant.

When our correspondent interviewed Mariam in the presence of her mother, it became clear that she knew exactly what she was saying.

Wearing a long hijab, and speaking English smartly, the child played on her mother’s couch, scampering from one point to another innocently, until her mother asked her to keep still. There was no doubt that Mariam was a happy child.

But if what the girl has been saying about what happened to her at school is anything to go by, she has become another victim in the increasing incidents of child sexual abuse in Nigeria, one which her mother fears may scar her for life.

When our correspondent asked about what her “uncle” did to her, she asked, “Do you mean Uncle Sirotullahi that usually came to remove my pant in our room?” When she got a nod in reply, the little girl started talking.

“Uncle Sirotullahi usually came to our room where we sleep. When they switch off the light, he would come and pull me from the bed. Then, he would pull down my pant and also remove his own trousers. He always bring out his thing and put it in my ‘bum’ here (pointing to her crotch). Sometime, he would come into the room and take another girl,” she said.

As she narrated this, she looked up with concern at her young mother who quietly sobbed.

Asked how many times this happened, Mariam counted her fingers as if to remember and said seven times.

Sola said she decided to put her daughter in the boarding school because it was run by people in her religion, and she believed she could get the right education and care as she worked to cater for her.

But that hope was dashed the day she learnt of her daughter’s alleged abuse.

“I did not imagine something like this could ever happen to my daughter in that school,” she said.

According to Sola, she had known the school proprietress and mother of the suspect (Ashafa) since she was younger and she was a student of the woman at a point.

She said she neither noticed anything was wrong with her daughter when she bathed her and neither did the girl complain about any discomfort.

Sola said, “I realised the last abuse might have taken place long before their holiday, maybe that was why I did not notice any physical discomfort at the time she came home.

“Immediately my aunty told me what my daughter told her own daughter, I examined my daughter and was shocked by what I saw. It was obvious the hole I saw there did not come there during one encounter.

“I rushed to the school and confronted the proprietress. Rather than invite his son to ask him questions, she picked up her phone, called and asked him if it was true he was raping the girls he taught. Of course, he denied it.

“I then took my daughter to a hospital where some doctors examined her and confirmed what I already knew. She was only examined, they did not test her for diseases. The doctors said she had indeed been defiled.”

The suspect is currently in Sokoto State, Saturday Punch learnt.

Our correspondent contacted Ashafa (suspect’s mother) and she categorically begged for the case not to be reported. At a point, she sobbed, asking that she would do whatever was needed to appeal to the family of the girl.

She said, “When I was informed about the case, I called my son and he denied it. He is currently in Sokoto where he is schooling. He is not 21, he is just a 15-year-old secondary school student. I was confused when he denied the accusation because I did not think my son would lie.

“He was at home for holiday at the time he allegedly raped the girl. When he came, because we do not have enough teachers, I told him to help out by teaching the lower classes. I have been operating this kind of school for over 27 years.

“My son swore that he knew nothing about it. I don’t know what to do. Truly, the mother has told me about her visit to the hospital and about how much she needs to pay for treatment and tests on the girl but I have no money. I have been very broke. I told her that she should be patient with me and that I would find the money. I can only beg her. If it is about money, I will find money.”

However, when Sola reported the case to the police at the Sango Police Division, an officer who attended to her said the case was “too complicated” for them to handle and referred the woman to the Juvenile, Women and Children Unit of the Onipanu Police Division, along Idiroko Road, where the police again said there was little they could do since the suspect was not around.

When Saturday PUNCH contacted the Commissioner of Education in Ogun State, Mrs. Modupe Mujota, she said a formal complaint should be lodged at her office and the ministry would investigate the school.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, explained that even though the mother of the suspect could not be arrested in place of  her son, the police still have to investigate the case. He promised to find out from the Divisional Police Officer at Onipanu what was being done on the case.

Student Raises £11,000 Through Crowdfunding After Parents Cut Her Off Because She Has A Black Boyfriend ...photo

A student has raised £11,000 through crowdfunding after claiming her parents cut her off after discovering she had a black boyfriend.

Allie Dowdle, 18, says her dad Bill told her she was never allowed to see Michael Swift again after she showed her father a photo of her new fella.

"Hoping to share him with my family, I showed my parents his picture, and the conversation was over before it even began.

"My dad did not give me an option: he told me that I was not allowed to see Michael ever again.

"Why? Strictly because of skin color. It wasn't a quiet 'no' either. I'll never forget the yelling my parents did, when they expressed how disappointed they were in me, that I could do so much better."

The teenager , from Memphis, Tennessee, said after the blazing row, she was blocked from using her personal savings and no longer had access to her car or phone, leaving her penniless and unable to continue her education
.
She wrote: "As I am 18, my parents have chosen to no longer support my future, stripping me of all my resources."

Allie has already smashed her $10,000 target, with her running total at around $14,000 (approximately £11,470).

The 18-year-old's dad has denied that the issue is about race.

Bill Dowdle insists he and his wife will accept any young man that their daughter choses to date, and only cut her off because she started dating Michael in secret.

But he admitted there were 'issues' involved with 'bi-racial dating' in the southern states of America.

Naked Possessed Woman Steals Police Car And Leads Cops On Hour-Long 100mph Chase In Shocking Bodycam Footage

Police bodycam footage has been released of the moment a naked woman stole a police car and led cops on a long high speed chase.

She had originally claimed to officers that she had been sexually assaulted and on drugs, which is why she did not have any clothes on.

In her police interview she reportedly said there were lots of things she could not remember from that day.

"I felt like I was, I want to say, possessed, like I didn't have control," Luna said. "I didn't remember the whole ride until I had sobered up again."

Authorities are now waiting on blood test results to confirm she was under the influence of methamphetamine and spice at the time of the incident.

Luna is facing multiple charges including unlawful flight from law enforcement, possession of the stolen MCSO vehicle, resisting arrest, theft of means of transportation, aggravated assault and false reporting.

Reports suggest the incident began on Thursday morning when a sheriff's deputy was called to a petrol station and found the naked woman standing outside, authorities said.

The deputy said she appeared distraught and disoriented, Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Ben Henry said.

The deputy, who left his vehicle running, tried to cover Luna with a blanket but she climbed into the car and sped off , the officials said.

Henry said the deputy tried to stop her by jumping on the running board but was unsuccessful and fell to the ground, sustaining minor injuries.

He was treated at a local hospital and released, Henry said.

He took up the pursuit in a civilian's car and alerted other authorities.
