Man who produces Substandard Products caught hiding in the roof to escape...photo

A secret factory in Onitsha, Anambra State, allegedly manufacturing substandard products has been discovered and sealed by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

A team from SON had come to the company after assessment of the company’s products showed they were substandard.

They also arrested the Managing Director of the company, who had tried to hide from the officials and his Chinese accomplice.

Leading the SON team was the Director of Operations, Mr Felix Nyado, who maintained that any company that failed to adhere to the production standard and requirements of SON would only be giving automatic approval to the regulatory body to stop the production of such substandard product, stop its circulation, make seizures and destroy such product as well as prosecute the owners of the company.

Officials of the agency stormed Bendusco International Agency Limited, Onitsha, where products like toothbrush, shaving stick and other items were produced. The factory by all standards was poor by outward appearance.

Channels reports that several workers were in the employ of the Managing Director (MD), Benjamin Nwizu, who the workers said owed them three month’s salary.

The MD on hearing the voices of the raid team climbed the roof space and hid himself, but his Chinese accomplice, Ning Tiangdon, was not as lucky as he was arrested.

A thorough search was carried out in which several other products with different brand names were found in the factory suggestive of counterfeiting activities.

The MD was later discovered in his hideout in the roof space and subsequently arrested.

Upon his arrest, he denied that his company was producing fake products and said that his company had dragged SON to court as well as to the National Assembly which he claimed had ordered SON never to disturb or make seizures from his company.

Nwizu said: “On the 12th of this month (December), the National Assembly ordered our company and SON with respect to disobedience of court order.

“The summons is here with me to appear before the panel. I was there, and then the Director of Legal Department of SON called Kawu was there. Then at the end of the day, the National Assembly ordered them that they should not for any reason come to the factory, or disturb the factory or arrest any of the workers and failing to do so, that they are going to enter into trouble”.

But SON Director, Mr Nyado maintained that National Assembly could not go against a regulatory agency set up by the law and that SON must continue to ensure the safety of the members of the public by carrying out their functions.

The company has been sealed, the MD and his Chinese accomplice handed over to police.

Cambodian opposition leader sentenced to 5 years in jail over Facebook post ...photo

Cambodia's exiled opposition leader Sam Rainsy was sentenced to five years in prison in absentia on Tuesday for posting a fake government pledge to dissolve the Southeast Asian country's border with Vietnam.

The sentence follows months of tension between Cambodia's two main political parties, the Cambodian People's Party of Prime Minister Hun Sen and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).

Hun Sen has been Cambodia's leader for three decades but his grip on power was shaken in a 2013 general election when the CNRP won 55 seats in the National Assembly, leaving the Cambodian People's Party with 68 seats in the 123-seat assembly.

Members of the opposition have complained of a crackdown by the government and its allies in a bid to intimidate critics before a general election in 2018.

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court found Sam Rainsy and two members of his social media team, Ung Chung Leang and Sathya Sambath, guilty of citing the false 1979 border treaty.

The fake treaty, which they posted on Facebook, purported to show Vietnam and Cambodia agreeing to get rid of their mutual boundary.

Presiding Judge Leang Samnath sentenced Sam Rainsy to five years in prison and Ung Chung Leang and Sathya Sambath to three years, all in absentia.

"The court orders the arrests of Ung Chung Leang, Sathya Sambath and Sam Rainsy to serve these sentences," Judge Leang Samnath told the court.

Cambodia has fretted for centuries about its much bigger neighbors, Vietnam to the east and Thailand to the northwest, encroaching on its territory. The issue remains emotive and many Cambodians are suspicious of both countries.

Sam Rainsy has been living in France since 2015 to avoid arrest in a separate defamation case. He did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday but said on Twitter the case against him and the two others had been "fabricated" by a "kangaroo court".

The CNRP said it had no knowledge of the whereabouts of Ung Chung Leang and Sathya Sambath.

Gov. Fayose tackles Buhari: Defeat hunger, leave recycled story of defeating Boko Haram

Image result for images of fayose
Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has said that what Nigerians are desirous of hearing from APC led federal government is the defeat of hunger and untold hardship ravaging the country and not recycled stories of defeat of Boko Haram insurgents, which is allegedly aimed at diverting attention of Nigerians from the fact that there is ravaging hunger at this time of the year.

The governor said it has become predictable that whenever Nigerians cry of the pains and sufferings they are going through, the federal government will come with stories like;
“20 Chibok girls found,” “$1bn found in Mr A, B or C bedroom,” “Boko Haram technically defeated,” “We have captured Sambisa forest,” `just to divert attention.
In a release issued in Ado Ekiti on Monday, Governor Fayose said; “It is painful that Nigeria under President Mohammadu Buhari has become directionless either due to the cluelessness of the president or his old age that has foisted a purposeless leadership on the country.

“This year’s Christmas is the worse in the history of Nigeria. People cannot afford to celebrate and enjoy themselves due to the hardship caused by the APC government.

To make matters worse, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) also created artificial scarcity of cash, such that people could not access their hard earned money in the banks as most banks in the country do not have cash to pay their customers.

“Like I have maintained, the main issue confronting Nigerians now is hunger and hunger does not speak the language of political propaganda that is being used by the APC led federal government. It is therefore no longer about diversionary news, it is about preventing Nigerians from dying of hunger."

The governor added that “the only solution to the myriad of problems facing the country is for those holding power in Abuja to face the sad reality that it was the hard stance of the president, his statements against Nigeria and its people both at home and abroad coupled with his demonstration of hatred against some sections of the country and desperation to crush his perceived enemies that led us to where we are today.

“It was the president that went to foreign countries to de-market Nigeria by calling all Nigerians thieves and dishonest people. He was the one who created atmosphere of economic and political instability in the country by his acts of nepotism and vindictiveness?

“Therefore, for the country to move forward, the President must change his attitude from a vindictive military dictator to a civilian president of all Nigerians.”

He lamented that those cabal in the presidency have hijacked the president and his government, running the country aground, saying; “Things were never like this at any time in the history of Nigeria apart from 1984 [when Buhari was Military Ruler].”

Lagos big boy caught for defrauding Chinese firm N165m and shrine discovered in his home ...photo

Police Special Fraud Unit, (PSFU), Milverton, Ikoyi, Lagos, has arrested a businessman Mr Saheed Mosadoluwwa Audulahi, for allegedly defrauding a Chinese company of N165,480,000.

According to police, the suspect defrauded JI Chu Industries Nigeria Limited of the said amount.

When police stormed the man's home at Magodo, Lagos, a fully equipped shrine was discovered.

Police recovered 30 international passports and four cars.

The suspect, however, denied ever defrauding the Chinese company. He said the business between him and the company was just a forex business that went wrong.

He said that he needed between three to four months to sort everything out, from the UK end of the transaction. He said things started going back at the UK end of the business, when UK government alleged that the money could be one of money laundry. He said that to show good faith, he had already raised N60million, which he gave to the Chinese company.

The PSFU spokesman, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Lawal Audu, said that trouble started for Saheed after PSFU received a petition from Akande and Akannde Chambers, on behalf of her clients, JI Chu Industries.

The company manufactures foot wears and is located at Ejigbo, Lagos.

Audu said: “The petitioner alleged that one Saheed Audulahi aka Ibile, who operates business name BMTC Logistics, obtained the sum of N165, 480,000 on the pretext of transferring the sum of 400,000 dollars to JI Chus’ business partner in China. As soon as the suspect received the said sum, he generated a fake telex transfer slip and gave same to the complainant as a proof of transfer of the money to China.”

The police image maker further explained that when the complainant received the telex, he contacted his business partner, who said he didn’t receive any money.

“It was at this point the complainant realised he had been swindled by the suspect, hence the petition,” said Audu.

It was said that detectives from PSFU embarked on an extensive intelligence gathering and tracking which paid off. The suspect was alleged to have been arrested at his hideout in Magodo Phase II, Lagos on December 17, 2016.

Audu noted: “The suspect’s arrest was highly dramatic as he seemed fully prepared to prevent policemen from gaining access into his home. When police got into his home, they made a shocking discovery of fully equipped juju shrine, which is believed to be a powerful tool for deceiving his victims. Various incriminating items, such as 30 international passports, four cars, supposedly bought with the proceeds of the fraud, different forged certificates purportedly authorising him to recruit students from Nigeria to institutions abroad; American College Certificate of Authorisation, Certificate of Authorisation by College of Tourism and Hotel Management, MKC City College Authorisation Certificate, Nicosia, Cyprus.”

The police said that further investigations revealed that the suspect was involved in numerous criminal activities, ranging from illegal bank transfers, hacking and visa racketeering and insurance of fake foreign academic certificates.

“The suspect is also operating fake freight forwarding at the airport and seaport. The suspect is neither a licensed BDC operator nor a licensed Customs clearing agent.
“It’s also worthy of note that the latest fraudulent trick of this forex scammers is pretentiously paying back little amount from the whole sum that was swindled thereby falsely building the minds of the victims that there is willingness to refund, where as it is a pure scam.”

Police Sergeant and Bank Official arrested for bank robbery ...photo

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Sergeant Promise Ukwuoma and an employee of Access Bank, Rumuolumeni Branch, Samuel Ndudiri, identified as members of a criminal gang who attempted to rob the bank.

The policeman and the bank staff were said to have been apprehended after a discreet investigation by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team with assistance from the Technical Intelligence Unit of the Nigeria Police.

The duo, were arrested at about 11.35 hours on Friday.

It will be recalled that operatives of the Command had last Thursday foiled what would have been a major bank robbery in the state and arrested three suspects in the act.

The three suspects and others on the run had brought a filled gas cylinder to the Access Bank premises in Rumuolumeni and had engaged in cutting the main door leading to the bank when security operatives stormed the place, following tip off.

However, some members of the gang, including a police corporal, Gabriel Igwe, of the 19 Police Mobile Force, are currently on the run, while two AK 47 rifles belonging to the serving police personnel were recovered during Friday’s operation.

Ndudiri, the Access Bank employee, was said to have masterminded the failed robbery of the bank with the assistance of the police sergeant, who is from the Department of Operations, Port Harcourt.

Police statement reads: “Arrest of a serving Police Sergeant and bank staff involved in bank robbery and recovery of two AK47 rifles belonging to serving personnel on 23/12/2016 at about 1135hrs.

“Sequel to the arrest and handing over of three suspects involved in Access Bank, Eagle Cement Rumuelumeni branch robbery to Intelligence Response Team by CP, Rivers State, for discreet investigation, IRT operatives immediately commenced investigation and with technical assistance from TIU (Technical Intelligence Unit), two key members of the gang were arrested.

“Sergeant Promise Ukwuoma of DOPS Port Harcourt and Mr. Samuel Ndudiri ‘m’, 38 years, a staff of Access Bank, Eagle Cement (Rumuolumeni) branch, who brought the job and masterminded the robbery were both arrested in Port Harcourt.

“Exhibits recovered are two AK47 Rifles with breach Nos. 523513 / 21173 and two AK47 rifle magazines fully loaded. One Cpl. Igwe Gabriel of 19PMF attached to RRT DOPS, now at large, is the owner of the second rifle with S/No. 21173.”

Igwe, according to the statement, left the rifle at his beat and escaped when he got information that his gang member, Sergeant Promise Ukwuoma, had been arrested.

The arrested suspects were said to have confessed to the crime, even as the police maintained that efforts were in top gear to ensure the arrest of the fleeing members of the gang.

Armed robbers storm Calabar Christmas Village and robbed Kiss Daniel, Store owners too

Fun seekers in the early hours of Monday scampered to safety after armed robbers stormed the Calabar Christmas Village while a popular Nigerian musician, Daniel Anidugbe, aka Kiss Daniel, was performing.

Punch Metro learnt on Monday that the robbers, whose numbers could not be ascertained, stormed the village at about 1am and shot repeatedly into the air while dispossessing people of their valuables.

It could not be confirmed if anyone was killed in the incident, but it was learnt that several people were stabbed.

It was learnt that some others, who sustained gunshot injuries, had been hospitalised.

The Calabar Christmas Village, which is located in the precinct of Calabar Municipal Council Secretariat, opens for 24 hours from December 1 to December 31 every year as a central location of revelry.

It was not clear if Kiss Daniel was injured, but an eyewitness said the robbers rushed to the stage while the pandemonium was on and succeeded in removing some items from the musician before he was whisked away by security operatives.

An injured shop owner in the village, Glory Andem, told Punch Metro that the presence of robbers became obvious when some spectators started throwing bottles at the musician.

She said, “It was a serious situation and I got injured. What happened was that some guys came into the village and tried to rob Kiss Daniel when he was singing, ‘Oya talk to me o mama.’

“They were throwing bottles and other things at him. Before we knew it, they brought out guns and started shooting. Some security men immediately rushed to the singer. But even with the security, the robbers rushed at him and removed his clothes and collected things from him.

“They would have killed that guy. To be honest, I don’t know how he managed to escape. You know there are several thousands of people in the Christmas village usually and the situation led to a serious pandemonium.

“They broke up everything in my shop. They took all my money. They robbed a lot of shops. Our chairs were broken. Everybody was running at the same time. It was a terrible experience.

“Several cars were vandalised. They broke the cars to steal from them. At a point, the lights went off and I thought I was going to die. As I speak with you, I have a serious cut from the incident and I want to go to a hospital to take a tetanus injections.”

But the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, said it was not a robbery attack, but a misunderstanding between the organisers.

He said the original plan was that Kiss Daniel and other musicians would perform at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, but the venue was changed to the Christmas village without any notice to security agencies.

“There was no robbery incident in Calabar and nobody was attacked by robbers in any other part of Cross River State. What happened was that the government had initially planned to host the musician at the stadium, but the plan was changed to the Calabar Christmas Village. They probably had misunderstanding with the organisers. It was the change of venue that was not properly organised,” he said.

Efforts to get the state government to comment proved abortive as no official was willing to speak.

Ritual killers attack family in Ikorodu and murder siblings

Some suspected ritual killers have stormed the residence of a family of five children on Saka Adegbose Street, off Olu Odo Road, Ikorodu. The assailants, who struck on Sunday, killed two siblings, Azeezat Oriade and Abeeb Oriade.

Two of the remaining siblings – Abdulazeez and Jamiu – were said to be in a critical condition at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.

It was learnt that the four victims were sleeping in the living room while their mother and one other daughter were in the bedroom when the assailants struck around 1am.

It was gathered that the ritual killers had torn the net on one of the windows to gain access to the apartment and hit the four children with some objects.

Shortly after they left, Abdulazeez reportedly screamed, which woke up their mother and neighbours.

The father, Lateef, a commercial driver, was not around on the day.

Punch correspondent learnt that 21-year-old Azeezat, the eldest child of the family, died immediately while her brother, Abeeb, a Senior Secondary School 1 pupil, gave up the ghost at the Ikorodu General Hospital.

The Oriades’ residence was deserted on Monday when Punch Metro visited the community.

A former chairman of the community development association in the area, Alhaji Wale Oladunjoye, said the victims’ parents were traumatised and had been relocated by their relatives.

He said, “A few minutes after 1am, somebody banged on my door, shouting that the Oriades have been attacked. I called my brother and we went to the apartment. The incident was reported at the Ipakodo Police Division.

“Initially, I thought it was armed robbery, but I was baffled when I realised that nothing was stolen in the building. Four children were brutally injured. Azeezat died instantly. We rushed the three others to the Ikorodu General Hospital.

“After Abeeb died, the two others were referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja where they were rejected. We had to move them down to LUTH.

“Abdulazeez’s head and jaw were broken and he lost several teeth. The family has been asked to raise N500,000 for urgent surgeries on his head.”

Another resident, who identified himself only as David, said the attack was the third in four months in the neighbourhood, urging the government to take actions to stop the bloodbath.

He said, “The attack is becoming rampant and it is being perpetrated by a gang of ritual killers, who have been terrorising Ibeshe, a neighbouring community. They don’t steal. About four months ago, a family was attacked on Adegbose Estate. A man and his three children were killed.

“Three weeks ago, a woman was attacked at Power Line, a few kilometres from the estate. She was able to scream and that was what saved her. The bush in the Oko Obasanjo area needs to be cleared because it serves as an escape route for criminals.”

A landlord, Mr. Adigun Mukaila, said residents had become overwhelmed by the attacks, and called for intensified police patrols on streets across the community.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Dolapo Badmos, said a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing suspects.

“A family was attacked by unidentified men. Two siblings lost their lives in the process. Residents are suggesting that it might be ritual killing. The command is investigating and working assiduously to bring the culprits to book,” Badmos said.
