See Federal Lawmaker who collected N130m Loan and disappeared ...photo

Money wahala! A member of the House of Reps has landed in trouble after he took a loan of N130 million from GTBand and absconded.

The lawmaker, Hon. Samaila Suleiman has been accused of bridging his contract with the bank. In a letter to the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, GTBank described the lawmaker as a dubious character who took a loan from the bank to offset another loan with United Bank of Africa (UBA).

After collecting the loan from GTB, the lawmaker promised to repay it from his monthly allowances which would be domiciled with the bank.
This was contained in a letter of loan request he (Hon. Suleiman) wrote to the bank on the 10th of May, 2016. However, things became bad as the 'dubious' lawmaker without the knowledge of GTB, diverted his allowances to another bank.

The bank was forced to go public as it is yet to reclaim N31.5m outstanding on the loan facility.
Officials of GTBank were left in shock after Hon. Samaila Suleiman began playing pranks on them. He refused replying messages or picking his calls which left the bank in limbo as to how to recover its outstanding money.

The bank described the lawmaker's sudden behaviour as 'dubious' and a disgraceful act.

UK based Nigerian man who posed as US Army captain to scam women out of their life savings ordered to repay £200,000 ...photo

38-year-old Nigerian student Tosin Femi Olasemo, who posed as a US Army captain to con lonely women out of their life savings has been ordered by UK court to repay more than £200,000.

The duped women believed Captain Morgan Travis was an Afghan war hero looking for love on website Match.com. But Captain Travis did not exist and had been invented by fraudster Olasemo, who was jailed in 2015 for four-and-a-half years after admitting fraud.

A confiscation hearing at Cardiff Crown Court has now ruled he will serve a further two-and-a half years if he does not pay the money back and will be deported when he is released.
In the UK on a student, Olasemo used a picture of a soldier wearing full military uniform as his profile picture. He claimed he was stationed at Camp Joyce, a remote base in eastern Afghanistan. Olasemo began online relationship with the women before asking for money.

Prosecutor Ruth Smith said small amounts spiralled into a fortune after he brainwashed women into believing they were in a real relationship.
"He conducted an online dating fraud exploiting lonely and vulnerable women by pretending he was an American soldier in Afghanistan to get money." said Smith.
When police searched his computer in January 2015 they found conversations with numerous women.
They also found several false Nigerian passports and driving licences.
Olasemo had a benefit from his crime totalling £253,347. The court ordered that £200,707 is repaid to his two victims who reside in Denmark.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “An investigation revealed that Olasemo had links to Nigerian bank accounts containing more than £150,000 and land purchased in Nigeria for around £47,000.
In addition, he was in possession of more than £1,100 when he was arrested.
"Olasemo had a benefit from his crime totalling £253,347. The court ordered that £200,707 is repaid to his two victims who reside in Denmark." said Detective Inspector Paul Giess.
"This case has demonstrated the dangers of providing personal details and sending money to strangers online. "Fraudsters use a variety of tactics to con their victims.

Senator ordered by court to pay newspaper vendor N100k for slapping him ...photo

Justice Winifred Effiong of an Akwa Ibom state High Court has ordered former Senator Anietie Okon, to pay a newspaper vendor, Ndifereke Etim, N100,000 as damages for slapping him unjustly at the Akwa Ibom state government house in September 2015.

Etim, who sells newspapers had gone to the banquet hall of the Akwa Ibom Government House, Uyo, during the swearing-in ceremony of a new Chairman for the Akwa Ibom State Council of Traditional Rulers, to sell some newspapers when he ran to the Senator to sell some of his newspapers.

According to Etim, what he received from the Senator were hot slaps and accusation that he wanted to steal his wallet.

An embarrassed Etim who maintained his innocence, reported the matter to the state chapter of the Newspaper Distributors Association of Nigeria, who filed a civil suit against Aniete on his behalf.

Speaking to Premium Times, Etim said
“When he finished slapping me, he(Anietie) accused me of stealing his wallet. But God knows I am not a thief, I sell newspapers to take care of myself and my family. He didn’t even search me to see if I had his wallet on me or not.”
Delivering judgement in the suit today, Justice Winifred Effiong, ruled that the former Senator's action against Etim was degrading and unacceptable and was against his Etim’s right to the dignity of his person as guaranteed by Section 34(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as well as the African Charter on human and people’s right.

Justice Effiong ordered the Senator to pay Etim N100,000 as damages and also N50,000 as cost for litigation. He also granted an order of perpetual injunction, restraining the former senator or his agents from further breaching of the applicant’s fundamental human rights.

EFCC seizes 12 Multi-million properties from ex-Minister Bala Mohammed & His Son

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has seized at least 12 properties from a former Minister of Abuja, Senator Bala Mohammed, and his son, Shamsudeen Bala.

It was learnt that the seizures were part of investigations into a controversial land swap deal carried out by the minister to the tune of N1trillion between 2010 and 2015.
An insider in EFCC said, “So far, we have seized about 12 properties from Bala Mohammed and his son, who he used in buying many properties. However, this is just a tip of the iceberg because we found out that there are still a lot of properties to be recovered.’’

“After investigations, we will arraign Bala (ex-minister) before an FCT High Court while his son will be arraigned before a Federal High Court anytime from now," the source told Punch in Abuja.

Mohammed, who has been in EFCC custody for over six weeks, is alleged to have entered into some controversial land deals and allegedly gave some landed properties to his cronies for the construction of malls.

The source said, “We have evidence that the ex-minister diverted funds from Internally Generated Revenue. He also gave land arbitrarily to friends without following due process. Some of the land had even been allocated to other people but seized from them unjustly.”

Already, the commission has grilled a former Chairman of Skye Bank, Tunde Ayeni, who was also the Chairman of ASO Savings & Loans Plc over the purchase of the N7.5bn ASO Grove Estate at the Maitama area of Abuja by the bank through the ex-minister.

A detective in the EFCC, while speaking with our correspondent, alleged that the former minister was also a front for Mrs. Patience Jonathan, the wife of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Mohammed became very close to the Jonathan family in 2009 when he called for the adoption of the doctrine of necessity when the then President Umaru Yar’Adua was critically ill and unable to perform his functions as President.

It was through this process that Yar’Adua was declared incapacitated and paved the way for the then Vice-President Jonathan to become the acting President and later President.

As FCT minister, Mohammed revoked the 1.84 hectares of land allocated to Yar’Adua’s wife, which was meant for her organisation, Women and Youth Empowerment Foundation.

The ex-minister then allocated the land to Patience for the construction of African First Ladies’ Peace Mission’s secretariat, stating that the move was in the interest of the public.

An FCT High Court, however, described the land grab as illegal and returned it to Mrs. Yar’Adua.

A source at the EFCC, however, said there was evidence to show that the ex-minister had given other plots of land to Patience in a similar fashion.

“We have evidence to show that Bala Mohammed was a front for Patience Jonathan. He abused his position and used it to allocate land to her as well. Patience has several business interests in Abuja, including a hotel,” a source stated.

Gov. Fayose orders Ekiti State University to sack 400 workers over non transparent employment

The Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, has sacked over 400 workers recently engaged by the institution because their recruitment did not follow due process.

The action followed a directive of the state Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who expressed reservation about the recruitment process.

The governor, who said this on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti, wondered why more than 400 persons would be offered employment without the positions being advertised.

He spoke during an interactive session with the participants in the N-Power Programme of the Federal Government from the state at the Government House, Ado Ekiti.

No fewer than 3,400 people are taking part in the programme in the state.

Participants are to take part in education, health, community and agriculture sectors for the next two years and would be paid a monthly stipend of N30,000 each.

Fayose at the event promised a reward of N1m and full employment for the best participant in the N-Power Programme.

He, however, called on the Federal Government to tackle unemployment headlong, saying the N-Power Programme was only a palliative.

“This is only a palliative as it will last for only two years and I am strongly appealing to the Federal Government to take the issue of job creation serious. When somebody partakes in this programme and is sent back to the labour market after two years, that is going back to where he or she started, the labour market.

“As for us, we will do our duty to distribute participants to where they would work and monitor them as well as ensuring that we do a proper data capturing of the participants.

“For those in the agriculture arm of the programme, they can take advantage of our desire to adequately support rice and cocoa cultivation. We will support in the provision of inputs and clearing of land. Next year, we are committing about N250m to clear farmlands across the state. From among the participants, we can get serious ones who could be useful in the teaching service and other areas,” he said.

The governor also emphasised the need to make appointment into public service free, fair and transparent.

Young British man jailed over plotting to kill Donald Trump ...photo

A British man has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison over his attempt to grab a gun in a bid to kill Donald Trump.

Michael Sandford, 20, pleaded guilty in September to being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and disrupting an official function.

He was accused of grabbing a policeman's gun at a rally in Las Vegas in order to shoot at the candidate.

His mother says "he is remorseful over what he did".

Sandford, of Dorking, Surrey, had faced up to 10 years in prison over the alleged assassination plot.

The court heard that he could be eligible for release in four months' time, at which point he will be deported to the UK.

The defence team said their client is autistic and suffers seizures and obsession-compulsion anxiety.

Michael Sandford appeared in court in orange prison garb, looking pale and slight, his ankles shackled.

He smiled as members of his family waved to him and mouthed: "I love you."

Sandford then broke down in tears as he apologised for what he had done and for taking up time and
costing the taxpayer money.

"I just feel terrible about it," he said.

The judge James Mahan appeared sympathetic, telling Sandford: "I don't think you harboured malice in your heart."

His mother, Lynne Sandford, also addressed the judge, saying her son was "cherished and adored".

"It breaks my heart to see him in this environment," she said, as she appealed for a lenient sentence on the basis that her son needed treatment and the support of his family.

German Minister sparks outrage after refusing to wear Hijab during Saudi Arabia visit ...photo

Germany’s  defence minister has sparked fury in Saudi Arabia after she willingly refused to wear a hijab during an official visit to the Kingdom.

Ursula von der Leyen and her entourage did not wear the hijab head coverings or the full length Abaya garment during her visit, despite adamantly claiming that she “respected” the country’s customs and traditions.

According to an Iranian newspaper, Von der Leyen said: “No woman in my delegation will be required to wear the abaya, as the right to choose one’s attire is a right shared by men and women equally.”

Shortly after her meeting with the Deputy Crown Prince Mohnammed bin Salman al Saud, Saudis took to twitter to express their disdain for her actions.

One translated tweet said: “The German Defence Minister: not wearing the hijab in Saudi was deliberate. This is an insult to Saudi Arabia!”

A similar angry reaction on twitter occurred after First Lady Michelle Obama did not wear a hijab last year.

Der Leyen wore a dark blue suit while donning the traditional ghutrah head covering.
Michael Ohnmacht, a German Embassy official, quickly tried to change the focus on the debate.

He said: “The talks between Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed and the German minister focused on ways and means to beef up Saudi German cooperation in different areas, including high-level exchanges, personally education and training, defence, mutual visits and security affairs."

Her “disrespect” towards the Arabian Gulf state comes days after Angela Merkel, Germany’s Chancellor, called for a ban on the burqa in Germany.

Watch video of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, shout in court - "Buhari can intimidate judges, he cannot intimidate me"

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, went berserk in court today after the judge presiding over his case, ruled that the witnesses in the case against him will be given some protection.
Kanu who was arrested in October 2015, is being tried by the Federal Government for alleged treasonable felony.

Delivering judgement on an application for the protection of the witnesses, the presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako, ruled that all the witnesses will be entitled to some protection when the trial for the treasonable offence commences.

According to Justice Nyako, the witnesses will be brought in and taken out of the court in a discreet manner. She added that it is not a secret trial.
“It is not going to be a secret trial. The court will allow the defendants see the witnesses. The defendant counsel will also see the witnesses,” the judge said
This position however did not go well with Kanu who flared up and began to shout in the court. Justice Binta had to caution him.
“If you don’t stop talking in my court I will assume you are becoming a nuisance in my court. And if I assume so, I will continue this trial in your absence, so do not try my patience. When you are in my court you will do what I want. It’s like having a visitor in your house; you can serve the visitor food but if he wants to eat he will eat and if he doesn’t want to, he will not.”
An angry Kanu continued yelling
"I will address this court! You cannot be killing my people and tell me that you will make me have a secret trial. That won’t happen! The president can intimidate the judges, but he cannot do that to me. Tell him he has lied,”he said

Shocking! Female Genital Mutilation practice increases in Britain with nurses flown in for the procedure

Black Health Initiative, a charity organisation, has revealed illegal practices taking place across the UK where girls less than 15 years of age are subjected to Female Genital Mutilation, after which their families throw a party to celebrate.

It is believed that not less than 8,000 girls have been subjected to this procedure. The practice used to be for the girls to be flown out of the country, but now, nurses are being flown into the country from Africa to carry out FGM on several girls at the same time.

According to Heather Nelson, Chief Executive, Black Health Initiative;
“We know of parties happening here in England and in West Yorkshire. We recently had to break one up, and we've stopped another from taking place.
She added:
"What we're finding now is that where once girls were taken abroad to be cut, specialist midwives are now flown over and several girls are cut at the same time, which then leads to a celebration."
Female genital mutilation is illegal in the UK and as such, such procedures are usually done secretly.
