Photo of 70 yrs old woman who sold niece for N500,000 in Delta

A resident of Ndemili in Ndokwa West area of Delta State, Festus Nwaomucha, has narrated how a kidnapping gang, which included a 70-year-old woman, sold his five-year-old niece for N500,000.

According to Nwaomucha, a number of children had been going missing in the community over time but on September 24, his niece, Glory Oyibo, was snatched right from the family compound in Ndemili, throwing the family into a panic over what might have happened to the little girl.

He said for over two weeks, the family made several efforts to locate the child. They got a break on November 13, when news filtered in that two kidnappers had been caught in Issele-Uku, a suburb of Asaba, with two children in their vehicles.

When the suspects – Emmanuel Udagwu, a resident of Agbor Alidinma and Celestina Enebeli from Ulogwe Isumpe – were arrested by the police, they confessed to have been involved in some previous kidnapping of children from Ndemili and surrounding communities.

Nwaomucha told Punch that the communities the suspects come from share boundaries with Ndemili. They confessed kidnapping about nine children so far in the entire localities.

“When they kidnapped children they transported their victims to Asaba, where a 70-year-old-woman received the victims for onward ferry to other places for sale,” he said.

The septuagenarian, who has since been arrested has reportedly made statements about the clients he sold the children to.

The old woman confessed that she had sold my little niece along with another boy for N500,000 to some people in the East. She sold them through another man in Asaba. The man outsmarted us during arrest, abandoning his taxi colour car,” he said.

The police said efforts are still ongoing to recover Glory and other stolen victims from wherever the gang sold them to.

“I want to thank all those who have been standing by my family through prayers, which have paid off. We are still praying for Glory to be alive in captivity so that she can be found in good health and reunited with her parents and other siblings, who have not stopped crying day and night since she was kidnapped,” Nwaomucha said.

Police said they are working to ensure all members of the gang were rounded up while the identities of missing children would be determined to effect their recovery from where they are sold to.

He said the tanker, which was filled to capacity with the smuggled rice, was intercepted by customs operatives on Monday November 15, 2016, along the Idiroko border area, on its way to Lagos.

“This interception was made 24 hours after my arrival by our gallant officers,” he added.

Gangua added that 25 cars with built-in compartments, loaded with bags of smuggled rice, were also intercepted in the Idiroko area.

The area controller said a trailer was also intercepted at the Lagos-Sagamu interchange with about 500 bags of rice on Monday November 21, 2016.

Three suspects - Anthony Nwapa, Osunkwo Chukwu and Hyginus Igbokwe - were arrested.

Confession of two men, 'We are conductors by day and robbers by night' ..photo

Two bus conductors, 22-year-old Lateef Sodiq and 21-year-old Tunde Lawal, have been arrested by men of the Lagos State Command after robbing a motorist of his Honda saloon car.

They are members of a car-snatching gang operating in Lagos. According to them, they 'supplement' their work as bus conductors with robbery.

Sodiq told Punch that he was arrested in a bus by men of the Alakara Police Division, Lagos, who were already on his trail without his knowledge.

He said that on Wednesday, after concluding his bus conducting duty, he went to meet members of his gang and they snatched the Honda at Sabo area of Yaba, Lagos and dumped the driver of the vehicle at Obanikoro along Ikorodu Road.

"We did not beat the owner of the vehicle, we just asked him for the security codes of the car. This is the second time I would follow the gang to snatch a vehicle. I was given N50,000 the first time my gang took me along on an operation. Our leader is called Coded. He has not been caught since he ran way.

“I have been an armed robber for just one month. I came to Lagos from my state, Kwara, last year when I could no longer stand the farming business my father forced me into when he could no longer sponsor me to school.

Now, I really feel bad about what I have done. I regret my life now. By the grace of God, if I am released, I will run back to my village immediately.”
Sodiq said he was not educated beyond primary school.

“When I finished primary six, my father did not have money for me to continue schooling,” he said.

On the other hand, Lawal explained that he thought robbery would be an easier job than his normal bus conducting work.

“My work as a bus conductor is a tough job, that’s why I decided to join the robbery gang. But now, I know better, the problem in robbery is worse. I wish I can just be released to go back to my conductor business,” he said.

Lawal explained that he was introduced to the gang by Sodiq.

According to him, the gang gave him the duty of ransacking any vehicle they snatched and gathering every valuable found in such vehicles.

“I don’t hold a gun, all I did was gather money, phones and other valuables,” he said.

The Oyo State indigene said he did not know other members of the gang except Sodiq. The first operation he participated in, they were almost caught when the police chased them but they escaped.

Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said efforts were on to arrest other members of the gang.

Mrs Aminat Titi Abubakar, wife of former Nigeria’s Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, yesterday told a Lagos high court sitting in Ikeja of how she was defrauded of N918 million by a former governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, Nsikakabasi Akpan Jacobs.

The  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Jacobs, Abdulmalik Ibrahim and Dana Motors  on a 15-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and fraudulent conversion of properties belonging to THA Shipping Maritime Services Ltd.

Led by the prosecution counsel, Mr Babatunde Sonoiki, told the court presided over by Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye how Akpan allegedly defrauded her of her shares in the company and other proceeds.

She told the court thàt Akpan Jacobs who doubled as the company’s managing director and secretary had allegedly gone to the Corporate Affairs Commission where he altered the share arrangement in his favour.

She alleged Akpan forged a company board resolution re-distributing the shares ownership and alloted 70 per cent to himself , 15 per cent to her and 15 per cent to Holmes.

With the shares re-distribution, Akpan Jacobs was alleged to have fraudulently assumed full ownership of  THA Shipping  and subsequently sold a property worth N918m belonging to the company to Dana Motor Nigeria Limited.

When asked, she said Akpan told her that he allotted major shares to himself in other to obtain loan from the bank for the company.

Testifying further before the court, Mrs Atiku stated that Akpan Jacobs , a pastor used the proceeds from the sales of the company’s property to contest for the governorship position in Akwa Ibom State.

Mrs Atiku lamented that her investment in the company had gone down the drain and  stated that her interest in coming to court is to ensure that justice is done.

“I have never been inside a court before. Not even a police station in all my life. I am here because I want justice. All my investment and even profit are gone. I want this to serve as a deterrent to other fraudsters that they can’t defraud people and not face justice”, she said.

Part of the charge preferred against the defendants by the EFCC stated: “that ýNsikakabasi Akpan Jacobs and Abdulmalik Ibrahim as the Managing Director and Company Secretary on or about the 10th day of August 2008 in Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division with intent to defraud stole and converted to your own personal use the sum of N918,000,000.00 being proceeds sale of the property and appurtenances situted at Plot C63 A Amuwo Odofin Commercial. President Buhari says 'I will ensure 2017 budget is not padded'

The distortions that happened to Budget 2016, in which series of rogue projects and figures were injected into the financial document won't happen to next year's budget, President Buhari has vowed. Receiving in audience members of the Governance Support Group (GSG), led by Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, at State House, Abuja, Friday, the President said:

"I am waiting for the 2017 Budget to be brought to us in Council. Any sign of padding anywhere, I will remove it."
President Buhari re-iterated that he had been in government since 1975, variously as governor, oil minister, head of state, and Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), "and never did I hear the word 'padding' till the 2016 Budget."
He promised that such would never happen again under his watch.
The President said the government stands by its tripod campaign promises of securing the country, reviving the economy, and fighting corruption, but lamented that some people are deliberately turning blind eyes to prevailing realities in the country.
"They don't want to reflect on the situation in which we are, economically. They want to live the same way; they simply want business as usual," he said.
On violence that attend rerun elections in the country, President Buhari stated:
"I agonized over the elections in Kogi, Bayelsa and Rivers states. We should have passed the stage in which people are beheaded, and killed because of who occupies certain offices. If we can't guarantee decent elections, then we have no business being around. Edo State election was good, and I expect Ondo State election to be better."
Speaking on the anti-corruption cases before the courts, the President said he believed the cleansing currently going on "will lead to a better judiciary. When people are sentenced, Nigerians will believe that we are serious."
President Buhari equally told his guests that the progress being made in agriculture and exploitation of solid minerals "gives a lot of hope," adding:
"Our grains go up to Central African Republic, to Burkina Faso, but they can't buy all the grains harvested this year. And next season should be even better. We will focus on other products like cocoa, palm oil, palm kernel, along with the grains. We can start exporting rice in 18 months, and we are getting fertilizers and pesticides in readiness for next year."
Speaking on behalf of members of GSG, Hon. Nwajiuba said the government had succeeded to a large extent on the security and anti-corruption fronts, adding that the group was positive that the economy would soon experience a turnaround, "as the government is working very hard in that direction."
The group said the biggest constituency of the President was the poor and lowly, and thus recommended what it calls "a social re-armament of the poor."

Florida boy calls 911 to invite police officers to Thanksgiving dinner...photo

A 911 dispatcher in the Florida Panhandle received an unusual -- albeit heartwarming -- call from young resident on Thanksgiving Day.

"A little boy melted all the hearts in Walton County Sheriff's Office Communication Center today," read a post on Walton County Sheriff Michael A. Adkinson, Jr.'s Facebook page.

According to the post, a boy named Billy called 911 Thursday afternoon "to invite WCSO staff/deputies to come eat Thanksgiving dinner with he and his family."

Considering most calls that 911 dispatchers receive are from people in a state of distress, the call was a pleasant aberration.

"With all the bad calls we take on a daily basis this one was a welcomed happy call that made all of us smile," said lead communications officer Monica Webster.

Billy was paid "a special visit" by deputy Damon Byrd and deputy Aaron Ethridge, who gave him a sheriff’s badge.

The deputies also allowed him to sit in their patrol car.

The Facebook post concluded, "While we do not encourage this use of 911 ... we are so honored at the invitation. Thank you Billy for making all of our days here at WCSO.Love What Matters #LoveWhatMatters."
