Uganda Court bans school supported by Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.

Image result for images of primary school students in uganda
Uganda's High Court on Friday ordered the closure of a chain of low-cost private schools backed by Microsoft and Facebook founders Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.

Judge Patricia Basaza Wasswa ruled the 63 Bridge International Academies provided unsanitary learning conditions, used unqualified teachers and were not properly licensed.

The ruling is a blow to Bridge International which has expanded rapidly since its inception in 2008 offering cheap, standardised, technology-driven education in developing countries in Africa and Asia.

Under the Bridge International model teachers read scripted lessons word-for-word from a tablet computer that also records student attendance and assessments. Gates' and Zuckerberg's foundations are among the company's high-profile backers.

The school authorities have however said they will challenge the court ruling,

Omg! These suspected thieves escape being lynched to death in Imo ..photo

These men pictured above, escaped being lynched to death after they were allegedly caught stealing motorcycles at Alaojii Aba branch Ehime Mbano LGA.

Facebook user, Kingsley M Chukwu, who shared the photos online, said it took the intervention of the local government area of the area to rescue the thieves.

He wrote:
It took the timely intervention of Hon Chike Orjiako for these half-dead alleged thieves to escape the fiery furnace at Alaojii Aba branch Ehime Mbano LGA after the efforts of the police proved abortive.
The alleged machine thieves were chased by commercial motorcyclists from Oriagu market and nature caught up with them at Aba branch. The thieves were brutally beaten to coma and about to be set ablaze when the police arrived. The mob threatened to attack and burn their vehicle. However, when their efforts were aborted by the brazenly angry mob, the police withdrew.
When the information got to the T.C chairman of Ehime Mbano, he forthwith moved to the venue. It was only by God's grace that he was able to talk to the war-ready youths and they stayed action. When he needed support to evacuate the victims out of the location before the youth changed their mind, the police were no where to be found because they didn't want to risk going there again.

However, the prompt call put across to the commissioner of police by Hon Chike was the only thing that brought the police back.

Meanwhile, the victims were assumed dead until revived by a doctor, they are presently recuperating pending when the wrath of the law will be unleashed on them.

This is what the DPO Ehime Mbano had to say after the bizarre: " HON CHAIRMAN, I AM VERY GRATEFUL TO YOU FOR YOUR PROMPT AND KIND ASSISTANCE IN RESCUING THOSE TWO BOYS AND YOUR QUICK RESPONSE TO THE DOCTOR WHICH LED TO THEIR ADMISSION AND TREATMENT. I REMAIN GRATEFUL TO YOU THANKS"

What touched me most was how the younger victim whose mother was said to be in the hospital was yelling at the elderly one. " see what you have caused me, I was foolish to be beguiled by you, look at where I have landed chai". He was saying that while some sympathizers who knew him not were crying.

Please youths youth know that no matter the level of economic recession, a crime still remains a crime.

JUNGLE JUSTICE...

How does the international community look at it? They see it as madness, in underdevelopment. That's why they say that a black man also has a black mind. Could that be true?

The menace of jungle Justice is worrisome. In some places when alarm is raised, no body will be patient to ascertain the true nature of the story, before you mention Jack Robinson, beating has commenced. Past stories revealed how people witch-hunted their assumed enemies by raising against them, before the true story emerged, they were far beaten.

Inasmuch as I don't support theft, it's important we look at the supreme judgement given by Jesus when a mob brought a woman caught in adultery, by the law of Moses, they were asked to kill in such occasion but Christ changed it. He told them that anyone who is without sin should throw the first stone. LESSON: All have sinned. When you kill under any guise, you are putting your generation under a curse. The soldiers and the police are justifiable by the law only if they are clean. The bible says a judge must first of all judge himself.

That's why it is more grievously injurious when a judge commits a crime by turning back to do what they in one time or the other sent people to hail for. He that most come to the judgement table must come clean.

A price regime was introduced between N135 and N145. So, you can sell anywhere within that range. What you are seeing is interplay of market forces."

During her second major speech on Thursday, November 3rd, Melania Trump, whose husband is known for using Twitter to mock and degrade women and his opponent, said her agenda would be to combat cyber-bullying and harassment..

"Technology has changed our universe," the 46-year-old said. "But like anything powerful, it can have a bad side. We have seen this already. As adults, many of us are able to handle mean words, even lies. Children and teenagers can be fragile. They hurt when they are made fun of or made to feel less in looks or intelligence."

Melania Trump delivered her speech at a sports center in in Berwyn, a suburb of Philadelphia and was targeting a group Trump needs this Tuesday: white, college-educated suburban women.

"It is never OK when a 12-year-old girl or boy is mocked, bullied or attacked," Melania said. “It is terrible when it happens on the playground, and it is absolutely unacceptable when it is done by . . . someone on the Internet. We have to find a better way to talk to each other."

Melania went on to portray her husband as a devoted family man with "deep love and respect" for all Americans and electing him would put the country on course to economic prosperity, and that by his side, she would help promote "respect and kindness" in all faces of American life.

"Donald Trump will make Ameriac fair. He will make America safe. He will make America prosperous. He will make America proud. And yes, this man I know so well, Donald Trump, with your help and God's grace, will make America great again."

UK Government suffers Brexit court blow

Parliament must vote on whether the UK can start the process of leaving the EU, the High Court has ruled.

This means the government cannot trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty - beginning formal exit negotiations with the EU - on its own.

Theresa May says the referendum - and existing ministerial powers - mean MPs do not need to vote, but campaigners called this unconstitutional.

The government is appealing, with a further hearing expected next month.

The prime minister's spokeswoman said she would be calling President of the EU Commission Jean-Claude Juncker to say she intended to stick to her March 2017 deadline for triggering Article 50.

Amid suggestions that she might try to call an early general election, she added that Mrs May believed "there shouldn't be an election until 2020 and that remains her view".

A statement is to be made to MPs on Monday but the government says it has no intention of letting the judgement "derail Article 50 or the timetable we have set out"

Na wa o! EKO Disco threatens to publish names of Electricity thieves, says they are customers from Ikoyi, Lekki etc

The management of EKO Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EKEDCP) on Thursday said it would soon publish the names of energy theft customers within its network.

Mr Oladele Amoda, the DISCO Chief Executive Officer, disclosed in Lagos that the company was losing over 30 per cent revenue to energy theft monthly.

Amoda said it was surprising that educated customers constituted the bulk of energy thieves within its network.

He said that they were supposed to understand the essence of paying for electricity consumed, but instead, they engaged in stealing electricity.

According to him, most of the energy theft customers caught stealing energy without paying were elites living in enlightened areas of our operations.

“We are going to start publishing the names of energy theft customers within our operations in the dailies.

“Most customers caught engaging in energy theft live in lkoyi, Lekki, Victoria Island and most high brow areas,” he said.

Amoda said that some of them engaged in by-passing of meters, reconnection without payment and tempering with meters among other acts.

He said that activities of the energy thieves and vandalism within its network cost the company over N1 billion monthly.

Update! Obanikoro undertakes to return N480m and submits passports to EFCC

Image result for images of musiliu obanikoro
A former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has signed an undertaking to return N480m to the Federal Government, The Punch has learnt.

Obanikoro has also submitted his United States of America and Nigerian passports to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

In addition, the ex-minister has provided two sureties who are directors in the Federal Civil Service.
Impeccable sources told our correspondent that these were part of the conditions given to the ex-minister for his release.

A source said, “The EFCC asked Obanikoro to submit his passports. He was only willing to drop his Nigerian passport but he has finally submitted the American one. He was asked to produce two directors, who must also present a three-month salary pay slip.

“He has returned N100m and has pledged to return N480m. The actual balance is meant to be N685m, but he was able to provide receipts for some transactions. He paid N85m to someone and that person has been traced.

“He also bought some bulletproof vehicles when he was minister and they will be handed over to the EFCC. The cost of the vehicles will be deducted from the amount that should be returned. Having met the conditions, he should be released any time from now.”

Obanikoro, who left the country around June 2015, was detained by the EFCC on October 17, 2016, after returning and surrendering himself to the commission in Abuja.

He was detained for his alleged role in the diversion of N4.7bn from the imprest account of the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The money was said to have been paid into the bank account of Sylvan McNamara, a company in which his two sons, Babajide and Gbolahan, were directors at the time.

Obanikoro reportedly told detectives that out of the N4.7bn, he paid N3.880bn to Ayodele Fayose and Senator Iyiola Omisore in July 2014, when they were the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidates of Ekiti and Osun states respectively.

However, detectives challenged Obanikoro with evidence that he also received N785m from the money and asked him to return it.

A source at the EFCC said, “Obanikoro claimed that he used part of his own share to do an anti-Boko Haram campaign in Lagos in 2014. However, we found out that he wasn’t telling the whole truth because some of the money was spent on his governorship campaign when he was contesting against Jimi Agbaje during the PDP primary.

“So, we asked him to return his own share of the money and he has promised to do so.”
Part of the money allegedly given to Fayose was converted to $5.377m and handed to him at Spotless Hotel, Ado Ekiti, in the presence of the then Ekiti State PDP Secretary, Tope Aluko, and other party stalwarts.

Council Officials in Delta storm Vanguard's Office, beat correspondent, take away phones, documents and cash ...photo

Commando style, officials of Sapele Local Government Area, Delta State, yesterday, invaded the Sapele office of Vanguard Newspaper, demanding for N100,000 on the alleged order of the council Chairman, Mr. Ejaife Odebala.

The invading council officials did not only beat up Vanguard’s Correspondent, Mr. Godwin Oghre, his T-shirt was also torn. The council officials ransacked the office and carted away mobile phones, documents and several personal effects, as well as some cash which total value was yet to be ascertained as at press time.

They claimed the N100,000 amount was owed the council by Vanguard. Vanguard’s Correspondent, who arrived the office few minutes before the council officials came, pleaded with them to approach the headquarters of the company to make their demand known. Recounting his ordeal, Oghre said he was later dragged into a waiting 18-seater Toyota Haice bus with no number plates.

According to him, he was dragged out of the vehicle and made to face what they described, as “Our Mobile Court,” manned by two men and two women in black suits, who they called “Our Judge.” The ‘judges’ ordered Oghre to drop another N20,000 or be forced into what they described as “Our Prison custody until you pay the debt on behalf of your company.”

He said he made frantic efforts to contact the council chairman, but his mobile line, 08033205878, rang several times, but was not answered. According to him, the state PDP Chairman, Chief Kingsley Esiso, who picked his line thrice, pleaded with the council workers on phone, but his plea fell on deaf ears.

Oghre added that as the angry council workers continued to beat him, he gave them another N20,000 which he said was the office collections for the week for change of name publication, which ought to be published today. Efforts to reach the council chairman were unsuccessful at press time.
