Meet Mum who breastfeeds her 1 & 3 yr old kids so she doesn't wash bottles..photo

Many mothers choose to breastfeed as a way to strike up a bond with their baby. But Sunshine Coast mother-of-two Shani Archer has admitted she breastfed her daughters for slightly different reasons.

She said breastfeeding was the easiest option because she is 'lazy', it is cheap, and there are no dirty dishes afterwards.

With young daughters Adelie, one, and Shilah, three, Mrs Archer said she had often felt pressured to breastfeed by other mums.

'There's so much back and forth about breastfeeding and bottle feeding,' she told Daily Mail Australia.

'The breastfeeding mums can feel judged for breastfeeding in public. But those same mums are doing the same shaming to mums who bottle feed.'

Mrs Archer said she had eventually chosen to breastfeed her daughters purely because it was easy and she was 'lazy'.

Breastfeeding had the added bonus of being cheap, free of dishes, and it could be done while having a snooze, Mrs Archer said.

'We're not all doing it because of the bond. Sometimes, with all the other tasks of being a mum, it is just the easiest option.

Turkish government detains 50 Nigerian Students in Istanbul over failed Coup..photo

More than 50 Nigerians studying in Turkey have been reportedly arrested by the Turkish police over their alleged involvement in the failed military coup which took place in the country on July 15th.

According to Thisday, the detained Nigerians are mainly students of Fathi University, one of the private universities in Turkey.

A close relative of one of the students said
“Upon arrival at Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, they were all escorted to a room and their passport confiscated by Turkish police. When they enquired why they were clamped in a dirty room, the police said they are students of a terrorist organisation. They offered to transfer them to government schools but on the condition that we will pay same fees as private universities,”.
The Fathi University is among the 2099 schools, dormitories and universities shut down in the wake of the July 15th failed coup in Turkey. The Turkish authorities said the schools and universities were terrorist schools because they have links with Islamic scholar Fethullah Gulen, whom the Turkish government had accused of being the mastermind of the failed coup attempt. It would also be recalled that the Turkish Ambassador in Nigeria Hakan Cakil, had requested the Federal government to close down 17 Turkish schools in Nigeria for alleged links to the Hizmet movement, a request which was turned down.

Doctors make remarkable breakthrough for HIV cure

UK scientists and clinicians working on a groundbreaking trial to test a cure for the HIV infection say they have made remarkable progress after a test patient showed no sign of the virus following treatment.

The research, being carried out by five of Britain’s top universities with NHS support, is combining standard anti-retroviral drugs with a drug that reactivates dormant HIV and a vaccine that induces the immune system to destroy the infected cells.

Antiretoviral drugs alone are highly effective at stopping the virus from reproducing but do not eradicate the disease, so must be taken for life.

Fifty patients are taking part in the trial and early tests on the first person to complete the treatment show no signs of the virus in his blood, the Sunday Times reported.

There is still a long way to go before the treatment can be deemed a success as the virus has previously re-emerged in people thought to have been “cured” and the use of antiretroviral drugs means the researchers cannot be sure the HIV has gone. Nevertheless there is optimism over the findings.

Mark Samuels, the managing director of the National Institute for Health Research Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure, told the Sunday Times: “This is one of the first serious attempts at a full cure for HIV. We are exploring the real possibility of curing HIV. This is a huge challenge and it’s still early days but the progress has been remarkable.”

HIV is able to hide itself from the immune system in dormant cells where highly sophisticated modern testing cannot find it and therefore resist therapy. The treatment endeavours to trick the virus into emerging from its hiding places and then trigger the body’s immune system to recognise it and attack it, an approach that has been called “kick and kill”.

There are approximately 37 million people living with HIV worldwide and about 35 million people have died from the virus.

The difficulty of declaring a patient clear of HIV was illustrated by the case of a girl in Mississippi, who was put on a strong course of antiretroviral drugs within 30 hours of her birth in 2010 after her mother was found to be HIV positive.

Treatment continued until the hospital lost contact with the mother 18 months later. When mother and child reappeared five months later the baby had no detectable virus in her blood, raising hopes that early intervention had cured her, but two years the virus had re-emerged.

The only person believed to have been cured was Timothy Ray Brown, an American treated in Germany. He needed a bone marrow transplant to replace his own cancerous cells with stem cells that would remake his immune system and his doctor found him a donor who was naturally resistant to HIV infection due to a genetic mutation that blocks HIV from entering the cells in the human body.

However, stem cell transplants are difficult and potentially dangerous for the recipient and only undertaken where they can save a life.

Na wa o! Oil price hits $50, Nigeria’s exports to rise

Global oil benchmark, Brent crude, extended its rally on Sunday to hit the $50 per barrel mark, the third time this year. This comes as the expected return of the Forcados export terminal has helped to boost Nigeria’s planned crude oil exports this month to about 1.98 million barrels per day, the most since January.

Forcados, whose export has been suspended since February after militant attack on the export line, is one of Nigeria’s largest crude grades with an average output of about 200,000 bpd last year.

No tankers have loaded from the terminal so far, according to Bloomberg ship-tracking data. Eight cargoes are scheduled to load this month with another six planned for November.

The recent upsurge in militant attacks in the Niger Delta pushed oil shipments, the nation’s biggest export, to as low as 1.38 million bpd in August from a high of 2.1 million bpd in January.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, last week, noted that the country had lost an average of 500,000 to 700,000 bpd over the last six to eight months.

Kachikwu said, “We think that if we can finalise the dialogues in the month of October, which is my anticipation, we should be able to get ourselves to end the year at about an average of two million barrels.”

Oil prices have been on an uptrend since the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries decided to cut output for the first time in eight years.

Saudi Arabia Princess flee Paris after giving "A Death Order"

The daughter of King Salman of Saudi Arabia has fled Paris after allegedly instructing one of her bodyguards to murder a painter and decorator who didn't perform well, it was alleged.

42yrs old Princess Hassa has pleaded diplomatic immunity against prosecution after telling the armed aide: ‘You have to kill this dog, he doesn't deserve to live.’

But the bodyguard, who has not been named, was arrested in the French capital last week and, following two nights in custody, appeared before an instructing judge on Saturday.

He was put under formal criminal investigation for a range of charges including violence with a firearm, kidnapping, and assisted kidnapping.

The bodyguard is likely to face a criminal trial, which could see him imprisoned if found guilty on what amount to extremely serious allegations.

He is said to have attacked the unnamed 53-year-old workman inside a palatial flat on September 26th, after Princess Hassa told the Frenchman to kiss her feet, and then issued the threat.

But Elie Hatem, the bodyguard’s barrister, disputes this version of events, saying: 'There were more than twenty people in the apartments'.

Lobatan! This S3x worker sells off 2 yr old daughter in Lagos...

The police in Lagos State have arrested a woman, identified as Grace Onome, for allegedly selling her two-year-old child in the Badagry area of the state.

It was learnt learnt that Onome was arrested on Saturday by the Badagry Police Division after a tip-off. It was also gathered that four accomplices, who allegedly aided the sale of the girl, were also arrested by the police.

The sold daughter, identified as Zainab, is yet to be found.

Punch gathered that Onome, who worked as a commercial sex worker in the Mobil area of Badagry, allegedly sold Zainab to another sex worker, identified only as Endurance.

A police source at the division said operatives were on the trail of Endurance in order to rescue Zainab.

He said, “It was on Saturday that Grace (Onome) and Endurance had the transaction. They are both commercial sex workers in the area.

“Endurance gave Zainab’s mother N50,000, before taking the girl away. The mother said she used the money to buy a few things for herself.

“The fleeing buyer is of no fixed address. But the police are on her trail.”

A child rights’ worker, Ebenezer Omejalile, said a request had been made to the police to have the case transferred to the Gender Unit, Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, for more investigation.

He said, “Child rights’ workers in the Badagry area are monitoring the case. It is being investigated by the surveillance section of the police division.

“The woman is a commercial sex worker and she sold the girl to a fellow commercial sex worker, who fled with the girl to a yet-to-be-ascertained location to resell her.

“We want the matter to be transferred to the gender unit of the police in Ikeja, where proper investigation will be done.

“We are worried that the victim has yet to be rescued by the police. Our contact persons in the Badagry area have been detailed to work with the police, and they will follow up on that matter.”

A source told our correspondent that the accomplices arrested with Onome were released on bail on Saturday.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed Onome’s arrest.

She added that efforts were ongoing to track the suspected buyer of the girl.

She said, “The mother has been arrested and she confessed to be a commercial sex worker. Effort is ongoing to track the fleeing suspected buyer and the child.”

Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, has retrieved 48 of his properties seized by EFCC

A former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, has retrieved 48 of his properties seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, The Punch has learnt.

A Punch correspondent, who visited some of the properties, located mostly in highbrow areas of Abuja such as Wuse II and Maitama, observed that some of the inscription ‘EFCC, Keep Off’, on the gates or fences of the properties, had been wiped off the buildings while some of the buildings had been rented out.

The correspondent, who posed as a prospective tenant, was informed that the rent for the properties ranged between N2.5m and N6m per annum.

The correspondent was informed that the 16 units of service apartments at Plot 1181 Thaba Tseka Crescent, off IBB Way in the Wuse II area of the Federal Capital Territory, cost N6m per annum including a N1.5m service charge. The building provides seven hours of power supply from a generator.

The correspondent observed that one wing had been painted while the other was under reconstruction.

A guard at the property said, “When the EFCC sealed off this property, it was rotting away. However, it was re-opened a few months ago so we started to refurbish the property. We have repainted the property and we have started renting the apartments out.”

At a block of flats, which comprises nine units (six one-bedroom and three two-bedroom flats) located at 8, Sefadu Street, Wuse, Zone 2, our correspondent was told that the rent ranged from N1.5m to N3m.

“Immediately the EFCC inscriptions were erased, all the flats were taken. There is no vacant apartment now,” the security guard said.

At a property located at 8 Mistrata Street, Wuse II, Abuja, it was observed that the property was a hotel, which charged between N25,000 and N45,000 per room.

During the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, the EFCC seized 48 properties from Sylva in 2013, an act which the ex-governor described as a witch-hunt and political persecution.

He was subsequently charged with an alleged N19.2bn fraud.

The spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, had said in a statement on January 3, 2013, that the ex-governor allegedly stole funds from the state between 2007 and 2011.

The statement read, “The EFCC on Thursday, January 3, 2013, took possession of 48 properties of the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Timpre Sylva, who is being prosecuted at a Federal High Court in Abuja.

“The interim forfeiture order to attach Sylva’s property was granted by Justice A. R. Mohammed on December 21, 2012.

“Assets belonging to the former governor, against which a forfeiture order was obtained by the EFCC, include a mansion at 3 River Niger Street, Plot 3192 Cadastral Zone AO, Maitama District, Abuja; nine units (comprising six one-bedroom and three two-bedroom apartments) at 8, Sefadu Street, Wuse, Zone 2, Plot 262 Cadastral Zone AO2, Wuse, Abuja, and two duplexes at 5, Oguta Street, Plot 906 Cadastral Zone, Wuse II, Abuja.

“Others are a duplex on Plot 1271 Nike Street, Cadastral Zone AO5, Maitama District, Abuja; a duplex at Phase 1 Unit No. 1 (Villa 1) Palm Springs Gold Estate, Cachez Turkey Projects Limited, Mpape, Abuja; 10 units of one-room apartments at 8 Mistrata Street, Plot 232 Cadastral Zone, Wuse II, Abuja; five units duplexes on Plot No 1070 Dakibiyu District, Cadastral Zone B10, Abuja; 16 units service apartments at Plot 1181 Thaba Tseka Crescent, off IBB Way, Wuse II, Abuja, and 3 units of three-bedroom flats at No. 1 Mubi Close, Plot 766 Cadastral Zone A01, Garki, Abuja.”

The EFCC subsequently slammed 50 charges against the ex-governor and arraigned him before three Federal High Courts in Abuja.

However, the three courts struck out the case against Sylva, accusing the EFCC of abuse of court processes.

At the last ruling in November 2015, Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja, struck out the case on the grounds that it was an abuse of court process.

The judge held that the charges had been dismissed by two federal high courts, and resuscitation was tantamount to an abuse of court process.

Ademola also held that the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the criminal charges against Sylva, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress.

He also inferred that Sylva’s case was one of persecution by people who wanted to get at him at all cost, using the EFCC.

He thereafter dismissed the case against Sylva.

In a recent document published on its website, the EFCC said measures were put in place to take Sylva’s case to the Court of Appeal.

However, Wilson could not confirm on Sunday if indeed the anti-graft agency had filed an appeal before the appellate court.

A source within the EFCC described the incident as unfortunate.

He said, “Now that Sylva has reclaimed the properties, he has the right to sell them. The moment he does that, we will not be able to recover anything from him and our ultimate goal, which is to recover stolen funds or stolen property, would have been defeated.”

All attempts to get a reaction from Sylva on Sunday proved abortive as his spokesman, Doifie Ola, neither returned our correspondent’s calls nor responded to a text message sent to his mobile.

Nigerian female police officer who survived a gunshot that missed her heart by a few inches returns to war front in Somalia..photo

Nigerian Police officer, Edward E Onoriode, who is curently on a mission in Somalia, shared this amazing story of his female colleague, Sgt Ladi John pictured above, who in August suffered a gun shot wound during an attack by Al-Shabab terrorist, flown abroad for a surgery and has returned back to work.
According to Onoriode, Sgt Ladi who had her thanksgiving today, says despite doctors advise for her to return bck to Nigeria, she decided to come back to Somalia to complete her work which brought her to Somalia. Read his post about her  after the cut.
August 23rd, 2016 was a dark and sad day at Nigeria camp here in Mogadishu. One of our brave colleague was shot by Al-Shabab terrorist. We all thought she's gonna die because of the damage the bullet caused on her body. The bullet penetrated from her armpit and came out from her breast. We were all scared, scared that we'll loose her. The sight of the bullet injury was gory.
She was rushed to UN level one hospital at Mogadishu for a quick surgery and after three days she was discharged and flown abroad for an intensive surgical operation. My colleagues who are Christians and Muslims often pray for her quick and rapid recovery while people like me wish her a successful surgical operation. Whichever way, we all want her alive again and she's alive today.
Today, she's now on her feet, back in our camp, looking so healthy, sound and ready to get back to work again. Her words during her thanksgiving celebration; "....Doctors said I'm one of the luckiest human alive today because the bullet missed my heart by inches.....
Despite the fact that they advised me to return back to Nigeria because of the psychological effect of the incident that I may have, I insist I'm ready to complete my mission and mandate that brought me to Somalia.....Her words brought tears down the eyes of many of us. She was passionate with her job and ready to give her all and complete her mandate in troubled Somalia. She's not a quitter but a winner and a heroine.
Help me celebrate with my colleague Sgt Ladi John.

Tragic! These 11 & 14 yr old brothers drown in Lagos lagoon hours after returning home from school..photo

These to brothers, Marvellous and Godspower Ebubenwachukwu aged 11 and 14, from the same mother, drowned in a Lagoon at the Ibeshe area in Lagos state hours after they returned from school and went out to play on September 29th.

They were declared missing when they didn't return home after going out to play. two days of searching for them, their bodies were found in a Lagoon. Facebook user, Onwuasoanya Fcc Jones, shared the sad story. Read below

Could there be a worst tragedy than having to see your grown up children taken away, just when you are so sure you have got them for keeps? At 11 and 14 years of age, parents have started rejoicing and even counting the days on when to start reaping the fruits of their investment on their children. But when the wicked hands of death chose such a time in their lives to snap them away, then there is little condolences can do.
When I spoke with these children's mother few minutes ago, I didn't find the right words to express my condolences, nor soothing words to comfort a her for the loss of her children. It would have been easier if these children were sick, but for children who returned from school and went out to play, only to be reported missing and after two days, their corpses were recovered from a lagoon, I do not know of a worst heartbreak.
When I brought the bitter news of the disappearance of these two angels to our notice, yesterday, I didn't tell us then, how closely connected to the case I am. Marvellous and Godspower were my wife's first cousins. Theirs is that kind of family, you never get to know whose child is who, as cousins relate so closely more than some siblings.
Nda Chioma, their mother is a fine soul, and the last of my mother-in-law's siblings. Beautiful like all of them. Young and hardworking, she had the best dreams for all her children, including these boys who have now joined God in Heaven.
We can only imagine the pains of their parents, but we should never pray to come close to such experience in this life. This is the kind of thing that tempt one to question God, but God knows everything and whatever He allows, he knows the reasons for sure. I am sure these boys are in Heaven with their Creator, my prayer is that God gives the parents, especially their mother the strength to beat this grievous loss''.

May their souls rest in peace (Amen)
